Today, I have started the 7 day countdown until I leave my hometown and get on a plane for the first time. The John Denver song, "Leaving on a Jet Plane," keeps popping into my head, but as much as I love the song and the artist I've been trying to banish it from my mind. I think the reasons are obvious.
"I'm so excited," by the lovely Pointer Sisters and "Walking on Sunshine," by Katrina and the Waves are more tunes that keep creeping into my head at odd moments of the day. The funny part is that just a few lyrics of each song will rumble through when I'm doing some silly task at home like folding laundry. It kinda throws you off guard when no music is on in the house and suddenly Katrina is belting out in your head, "I'm walkin' on sunshine, woh-oh, And don't it feel good? Hey, all right now. And don't it feel good? Hey, yeah." It messes with your head.
I guess my mind is just trying to get me pepped up so I'll get over my fear of planes and heights on the cross country trip to BlogHer '11. San Diego is supposed to be beautiful this time of year, so I keep telling myself that I'm going to have to get a "picture of the California sun" even though I'm going to San Diego and not L.A. like the woman in Joshua Kadison's song, "Picture Postcards from L.A."
Although I'm extremely excited about this entire adventure I'll be leaving my other half and my children at home. I'm sure if I hear the song "Where'd You Go?" by Fort Minor while I'm gone it will make me a little homesick. But only a little!
